Adrian Charles is a Paediatric and perinatal pathologist based in Perth, Western Australia. He trained at Cambridge, UK, winning a few prizes, and after a spell in clinical medicine including paediatrics both at Cambridge and at the Royal Childrens Hospital in Melbourne returned to Cambridge to train in Pathology. He completed his training at Bristol, UK with Professor Jem Berry, and also while there obtained a Smith and Nephew Foundation Fellowship to undertake full time research into Wilms tumours leading to an MD degree at Cambridge, which also won a prize. The department there looked after the ALSPAC placenta collection.

After some time as a University senior lecturer in Bristol, aiding the undergraduate clinical course and establishing a diagnostic molecular pathology laboratory, as well as ongoing practice as a perinatal/paediatric pathologist.

He has spent the last 10 years in Perth, as a member of a small department of paediatric/perinatal pathology, whose practice covers the large area of western Australia.

His current research interests include the placenta, stillbirth and also Wilms tumour. He has collaborated with Carrie Salafia (often using Skype) for the last 8 years, and this has been a fruitful exchange and development of rich ideas. He has collected the images and working towards using the Raine collection placentas data for analysis.
