Placental Analytics LLC has recently been awarded an NIH SBIR phase 1 grant to develop its automated methods of digital diagnosis of chorioamnionitis. Placental Analytics LLC has just been awarded a subcontract on a grant to Jonathan Davis, MD at Tufts. (NOT-NCRR-09-005; Administrative Supplements for Research on Outcome Measures for Pediatric Clinical Trials in support of the Best Pharmaceuticals for Children Act) Pacental Analytics's goal will be to apply novel measures of placental size and shape that relate to placental function that may indicate times in pregnancy when placental growth trajectory was altered (14). In addition, placental tissue will be examined by a single Placental Pathologist (Dr. Salafia) in the US blinded to clinical outcome for evidence of acute intra-amniotic infection (staining of cells for TNF-α to show active infection/inflammation), chronic placental inflammation (viral infection or maternal immune dysfunction), fetal-placental vascular pathology and maternal uteroplacental vascular pathology (oxidative stress) as previously described. |
